It's completely unnecessary. It did not roughen the inside of the shaft at all. The brissils would probably have to be steal but its probably not a good idea anyway because that would compromise the integrity of the shaft. Besides it doesn't take much to hold the inserts the arrow does its job moving forward the only time it moves in reverse is when you're pulling it out of the target. Field points come out real easy and dont tare up the target.
