David Rueben has accomplished something other vampire authors can only hope to achieve one day. His incredible book, “Red Tide – The Flavel House Horror: Vampires of the Morgue” is undeniably the best vampire novel I have ever had the great pleasure of reading. Take it from me, the time I’ve dabbled in vampire fiction far exceeds the average of most avid readers out there.Several aspects of this book attributed to its “best of all” status I’ve awarded. First of all, this book hooks you from the very beginning. You are probably familiar with the expression “I couldn’t put it down” but for me, this has never been more true. I’ve blown through books faster than a speeding bullet, but this one was different; this one captivated me. It sucked me in and held me there in its twisted web of thrills.Rueben’s writing style never swayed from outstanding, in fact it only got better the deeper I delved. His characters are probably the best-developed characters in today’s fiction. The fact that he used actual locations only added to this phenomenon. His characters fit in perfectly with the surroundings and plot line. What is even more impressive is the way he developed a unique and near indescribable relationship with the characters. The flawless way the characters interact with each other builds an intense interdependent relationship between the characters’ actions and the plot line. The extravagant and well thought out plot keeps you on the edge of your seat as Rueben slowly feeds you only the information he wants you to know at the time. This makes for an astonishing and unforgettable thrill ride of a vampire novel. Speaking of vampires, these vampires are EXACTLY the kind of vampires you want to read about. They are intriguing, murderous, wicked, and undeniably maniacal: the perfect attributes for a riveting story! But it’s not all horror, blood, and guts, it has a touch of fun and a certain intrigue that pulls it all together, making this a deadly and addicting book.Rueben has masterfully executed his premise, characters, and plot. What’s left? Oh yes, he has also perfected his unique and captivating voice as a writer. The narration is off the charts, enthusiastic, eventful, and utterly exceptional. In most books, I live for the dialogue and skim the narration, not this one! This book had me enthralled sentence for sentence, word for word. The dialogue fits perfectly, and the narration flows between scenes. This is fun, exciting, horrifying, and all around terrific!I cannot recommend this book highly enough to vampire lovers everywhere. This is the book the vampire community has been waiting for… this is the vampire breakthrough novel.Five stars and well deserved.
