I found the whole series gripping. The twist on the original is genius, and so well done. I read Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass to my little girl both to fully acquaint myself with it and to prepare her for The Looking Glass Wars. Getting through the original was a real chore for me, especially knowing what was coming. Now we are going through book 1. It's a little slow going since she finds it a little scary (age 8), but she's warming up to it.
