I love the Martini Kayak. The modular concept is really awesome. I own the back, mid and the front, which allows me to go kayaking solo or with a friend, depending on my mood. I even thought about getting a second mid piece to make a triple but couldn't due to car capacity. This would easily be a 5 star product, if not for some quality issues. The kayak is a breeze to transport. No need for roof racks, no need to struggle to unload the kayak from the car roof and then carry a 70lb kayak to the water's edge. All three pieces fit easily into the back of my SUV with two rows of seats folded. Be warned that a standard sedan with no fold down seats may not be big enough for even the solo (front and back pieces), let alone the tandem. But as long as your vehicle is big enough to accommodate however many pieces you have, then you will soon began to realize just how much opportunity you will have to go out on the water, be it be a lake, pond, the bay or ocean nearshore. Heck, you could even use it as a fancy pool toy if the pool is big enough. It takes literally seconds to put together and take a part. The kayak is super stable due to its relatively wide body and because of that, is definitely on the slow side. But for a recreational kayak, its speed is acceptable. I have taken in out in to SF bay and never felt like the kayak was going to tip over. The cockpit is comfortable enough for my 6 ft, 180lbs, 32 inseam body. Someone who is taller or have longer legs might find it a tad snug. The kayak once it's put together looks super sleek and I have had many strangers just approach me and start up conversations when they see what I am doing with the kayak.I also get a lot of questions from people who ask, won't the kayak leak? The answer to that is that each piece is water tight on its own. They join together, in essence, to give the kayak a hydrodynamic shape. The straps that join the separate pieces at the top do not look that sturdy but I am told that while on the water, the pieces are being "held" together by the buoyancy and how the locking shaped pieces molded into each piece fit into each other. There is a little bounce between the pieces when the water gets a bit choppy, but again, nothing that ever made me nervous. So why only four stars? Well, here are the numerous minor quality issues I had that I had to take care of. The overall construction is solid but the little things were not taken care of properly and it does seem like quality assurance for the little things is lacking.1. The seat pad on the front piece came off completely after 2 sessions. Looks like the glue they used was not good quality. I used gorilla epoxy to glue it back down and it was enough for me to take care of but ..........2. One of the nuts that hold the screw in for the back rest popped off during my first session. I went down to the hardware store and got a slightly longer screw and a replacement nut but again ..........3. Whoever that tied the cords for the rudder at the factory didn't give a damn about what they were doing. I had to tie it into a better knot.4. Biggest complaint of all. The front hatch is supposed to be watertight. I found out after my first outing that it wasn't, because the caulking job they did inside the cockpit was shoddy so water that got into the main cockpit made it into the front storage hatch. I used some waterproof caulk to fill in all the gaps and places where the original seal was coming apart and now it's watertight but again ...........Don't get me wrong. I still love my Martini and it's one of the best purchases I have ever made in my life.Found an unbeatable deal on the front and back pieces of this kayak. With a little creativity I have figured out how to fit this entire boat in my 2014 Kia Optima, though doing so leaves no room for a passenger. I bought this boat expecting to sacrifice some performance ability in exchange for being able to actually transport and use it without installing a rack or having a large vehicle. Instead this boat has exceeded my expectations. I regularly take it up and downstream a decent sized river without much trouble and the rudder really helps with tracking and navigating difficult river drops, rocks, ripples and strainers. I have taken this boat on a couple of group trips and everyone admires it and compliments how well it handles. I'm confident enough in this boat that I have registered for a ten mile river race. I would definitely recommend this kayak to friends.I removed one star only because, for the price this kayak retails at, the seat back has left something to be desired. I will probably change it out for a better aftermarket seat back.It does what I expected, and a bit more. So it does put together and take apart easily, and it is modular, which is why you would get it (if you don't want modular, look at another kayak). It fits in the back of my Honda Insight, moving the front seat up a couple of inches. It sits in my car most days so I can decide after work on the way home whether to get on a lake. It takes up the whole back, and I would not be able to fit the middle piece. I have had it on a few lakes and slow rivers and works well on them, but not on rapids. It holds enough for a weekend for a light packer. The little string on the back cover broke just putting the boat into the car. I replaced that with 50lbs paracord which seems right for breaking when it should. In summary, it will get used more than other kayaks because you don't need to worry about sticking it on top of your car or having it not locked up up in the back of truck at work. It is not a racing or ocean kayak, but it will be good for weekend trips and just using on the odd evening without much trouble.btw, I am 6'0 210lbs.This is an impressively sturdy kayak and I love the tandem option. I appreciate the quality of this Point 65 Martini which is why I've rated it 4 stars. I did, however, knock a star off because the title and listing were misleading. The image shows the entire kayak and all the kayak pieces, but never highlights just the piece you're buying as the front and back piece listings did. I mistakenly thought I was getting a great deal buying an entire kayak when in reality I got what you see pictured first, only the middle portion. My silly mistake, of course. The kayak is also touted as a space saver. Although, you can see it's quite bulky in a small apartment.Works great! We slip the two halves into the back of our Buick Enclave plus all our gear and pop over to the lake, no roof lifting, tie downs or etc. We bought a 9 X 12 foot canvas sheet we put in the back of the Buick when we take the kayak, that is to keep any wetness from getting into the carpet. Works great and is fast.People at the lake are amazed when we set up or break down the kayak, always draws a few kayakers and others over.Handles well in the water, the rudder works great, which I didn't think it would be that effective, but, it is.I drive a Dodge neon which makes kayaking a bit of an issue... this solved the problem.. i removed the back seat and the kayak fits in it perfectly .. it also work floats nicely and is easy to paddle.. it turns nicely and tracks well was really happy with that performance of it on the water and the transportability is a strong plus!!yes i got it in the car it is in front of!Love this kayak very much. Extremely easy to connect & disconnect the pieces together. All 3 pieces for 2-seat tandem kayak stacked nicely inside a minivan with plenty of room left for cargo space & seating. Will purchase another mid section to make 3-seat. Very stable in water.
