These two 1999 releases from the U.K. `Budget" label Charly provides these original Rockabilly recordings derived from Sun Masters, with very good sound reproduction and background and session notes in 8-page booklet written by Adam Komorowski, editor of the R&R publication New Kommotion. You won't find any nationally-charted hits here - indeed, many were never released at the time of their recordings, especially those in Volume 2 - but all together these provide 47 rare Rockabilly entries recorded at the height of the popularity of that brief genre. It also has to be remembered that Sun simply didn't have the promotional funding capacity of the larger independents like Imperial and Dot, and that Sam Phillips was concentrating what he did have on pushing the likes of Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lee Lewis after Elvis' contact was sold to RCA Victor. A lot of these may have done well on the national charts with proper promotion - or if they were released in the first place.Volume 11.
