This review is for the Blu-Ray edition of Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead. This movie picks up right after the original 'Dead Snow' ends. While you might want to watch the first one before this one, it is not necessary. There is a summary of the plot with flashbacks at the open of the movie. Don't worry about missing any details, the original plot is extremely shallow but this is not meant as a criticism. It only takes a minute to get all you need to know to move on.I enjoyed this one far more that the first. This movie had some originality and definitely a lot more depth. Also, I should point out that this release has some very good extra's that add a lot of value.EXTRA'S: The International Version of this movie is also included.-There is an audio commentary with the director and writer. As of the time of this review I have listened to about 30 minutes of it. You get what you expect and they tell stories and give info as the scenes go by.-There is a short Film called 'Armen.' This is an entertaining short that is about 15 minutes long. There is no dialogue and it is about a worker who has half of his arm cut off while at work (This has obvious parallels to the main feature). While trying to adjust to life without an arm, something unusual happens. If you like the humor in 'Dead Snow' then you will almost certainly like the humor in this short. I enjoyed it.-VFX Featurette - This is a two minute featurette in which you are shown how a bunch of scenes are edited. Effects were both added and deleted. This is done in a creative way.-Dead Snow comic book - You are shown two pages at a time of a 20+ page comic book which serves as a prequel to both 'Dead Snow' movies.-The trailer for this movie along with a bunch of others are included.- Subtitles are included.PLOT/SUMMARY: ***SPOILERS BELOW****This movie obviously picks up from the first one. Martin, his girlfriend and his friends have incurred the wrath of Nazi zombies. They were on vacation in Norway when they came upon a box of Nazi gold and taken it. Upon realizing that the gold belonged to the Nazi's, Martin returns it to their leader, Herzog. Unfortunately every else is dead. This is where the first movie ends.Martin forgets about one last gold coin in his pocket and drives off with it and Herzog pursues him.As Martin frantically drives off, Herzog gets his arm sheared off by an oncoming truck and the arm falls into his vehicle. Martin passes out and is rescued and brought to a hospital. He wakes up to find out that the surgeon mistakenly thought the arm in the car was his and attached it to him. The arm has a mind of it's own and starts killing everyone in sight until Martin is sedated. An American named Bobby tells Martin about an American zombie hunters called the Zombie Squad. Martin's arm kills Bobby and Martin runs away as the police pursue him.Martin gets in touch with the Zombie Squad, a group of three named Daniel, Monica and Blake, and they head to Norway to help out. Meanwhile, Herzog gets a new arm and starts recruiting zombies.Martin goes to a WWII museum to find out more about Herzog. He meets a young curator named Glenn who tells him about Herzog. Herzog shows up at the museum and begins killing tourists and steals weapons and a tank from the museum.Martin then discovers that he too, has the power to raise the dead by controlling and using Herzog's attached arm. Martin and the Zombie Squad decide to raise an army of their own.Martin and Daniel head to a Russian POW graveyard and resurrect and soldiers who had previously been executed by Herzog. They lead the Russian soldiers to battle against Herzog and his army of undead. An all out battle ensues. Herzog and his troops are winning the battle. Martin and the Zombie Squad know there is only one way to win the battle. They will need to take down Herzog.PRODUCTION/COMMENTS: Red vs. Dead was produced in 2014. It was filmed mostly in Iceland. The original was shot in Norway and this movie is set in Norway.-The opening scene, in which Martin is in his vehicle with Herzog trying to kill him was shot in Norway. This was shot separately and in between the two movies because the producers did not yet have financing yet. Once they got financing, it was decided to shoot the movie in Iceland because it was much cheaper to do so.- This movie was shot in two languages, English and Norwegian. As a result, if you watch the movies consecutively, it might be a bit jarring to watch the actors switch languages if you watch the second in English.- I felt that this movie was 'deeper' than the original if you want to call it that. The first one had a very basic plot and it was nothing more than zombies killing people with no real plot. This movie gave you a story and some creative and original ideas.RECOMMENDATIONS: I'm giving this 5 stars. I think they producers did about as good as a job as you can do with the material. You also get a generous list of extra's including commentary track. The special effects were very good, even excellent when factoring in budget. If you are easily offended, stay away, as this movie is quite offensive to certain people. This will probably not be the case if you are a fan of the first movie. But keep in mind that everyone, not just some teens, are fair game.I would recommend this for any zombie lovers. If you saw the first one and like it then you will probably like this one. As I stated above, I enjoyed this one far more than the first "Dead Snow".
