I'm one that's big on reading reviews from other readers about books. I find it's a much better way to see what a book is about. This was one of the books that I kept seeing pop up on the suggest to read forums, so I finally decided that I would read it.Well to begin with the writing style was very hard for me to adjust to. I read the first couple paragraphs and found myself going "please don't tell me this is how it's written for the entire book", and cringed when I found out it was. However I stuck with it and continued reading, and am glad that I did.The book is litterly written like someone is tape recording everything Saba is feeling, thinking, or saying and putting onto paper. From the spelling mistakes and the way she talks and speaks it gives you a complete understanding of who she is and it was a risky move by Moira but it completely paid off. After about 3 chapters the written didn't annoy me and I was engrossed in the story.****Spoilers****In Blood Red Road we find Saba, her twin brother Lugh, little sister Emmi, and her pa. They live out in the middle of no where fighting to stay alive and out of no where her brother is taken by a gang of black robed men that kill her pa. She sets out to find him with her little sister tagging along which she finds annoying but does what she has to because her brother and pa said so. After she leaves her sister Emmi, she continues on with the search for her brother, only to find out Emmi is about as stubborn as she is. Continuing on their journey to find their brother they come across a couple that almost kills them with a boat. Thinking that it might actually be a blessing in disguise, they agree to go with them only to be horribly wrong. They are drugged and Saba is sold into the local cage fighting in town and blackmailed to fight. Her stubborness and will to find her brother help her become the most sought out entertainment in the town. The one and only time she lets her guard down does she learn the actual truth about why her brother is taken and it makes her even more determined to get out of there. She meets some members of a gang of rough girls that she is willing to work with break out of prision. In the process of the planning, she encounters another young fighter named Jack that intrigues her with how sure he is of himself. Along with the gang of girls she breaks out and rescues the rest of the fighters. The gang of girls help her out by showing her the direction of the place she needs to go to find her brother, but it is the young and enticing Jack that knows the way. Despite her better judgement she allows him to show her the way. Saba's interactions with Jack teaches her that it's ok to depend on other people and that it's ok to not have all the answers. On the last part of the journey to find her brother there is floods, strange horrible creatures, near death illness, and romance. The book was overall riveting and a nonstop page turner for me. I throughly enjoyed the development of the characters and their relationships. I can't wait for the second book to come out later this year to see how things turn out.
