This is the seventh Inspector Pekkala novel by Sam Eastland (the pseudonym of Paul Watkins). Is this the final episode in the series - we are left wondering, since the author neatly ties up many of the various plot lines and such from all of the previous books in the series - and he has Pekkala going off to live happily ever after with his beloved Lilya. While Kirov stays in Moscow with his wife and the Emerald Eye Badge that the Tsar had given to Pekkala. A nice ending to a really great series of books. In this book - Pekkala travels to Berlin in April of 1945, just before the fall of Berlin to Soviet tanks, to save a British spy, who has managed to obtain the plans for an improved V2 guidance system. In addition to the following of Pekkala, we also follow some of the Germans involved with the V2 program as well as some of those doomed to live in the bunker under the Reich Chancellery building. Well thought out and well researched as are most all of Eastland's books.
