This is a beautiful version of Little Red Riding Hood. The text is simple but the illustrations are rich and intricate. The wolf is so debonair, and the grandmother so sweet and homey! This book is probably not for really little ones, as there are many toothy close-ups, but older ones will be delighted by the humorously scary wolf. As with so many of Spirin's books, there are lots of wonderful details to look for in the pictures. Our family has many of his books and are happy to see that in this one he has returned to his earlier style of painting. We were not so impressed by the ones done on wood. Little Red Riding Hood will make a lovely gift for family and friends.
